As Jason commented (here), he got all the onions and some of the potatoes in the ground last night. The kids helped, which is always fun. We hope they grow up loving gardening and the outdoors as much as we do.
The onion varieties we ordered from Dixondale Farms and planted yesterday:
Studies have shown the onions do poorly when planted where cabbage grew in the previous year, so we made sure to keep them far from last year’s cabbage rows. Aisla Craigs are supposed to get really big, so it will be fun to see if they size up for us, even though were a couple weeks behind in getting them out. We planted our onions (Clear Dawn, started from seed in our cold frame) really late last year, and they still sized up moderately and kept fine through the winter, so I’m optimistic. If we ever start from seed again (and I think we will), we will go with Clear Dawn.
I’ll post all the potato varieties once they’re all planted.
